The Story of Si Se Puede

Hi, my name is Yurisa Garcia. I was born in Houston, Tx and raised in the Rio Grande Valley. I graduated from PSJA Memorial High School in 2016. I was fortunate enough to graduate from Texas A&M University debt free due to the help of my college counselor, Ms. Ramos and the Go Center who pushed me to apply to as many scholarships as I can. It took work, but it was well worth it to pay for my education and now, the ability to give back to my community.

In honor of my parents, Severo Garcia, and Angelica Garcia, who are no longer with us but continue to inspire me everyday, I started this scholarship, to give back to first generation students. Their favorite saying, “que si se puede,” lives on through this scholarship. May this be the start to provide endless opportunities for other students like me.
